Like any other furniture, steel furniture will also require regular cleaning and maintenance to ensure their longevity and so that they keep looking great for a long time. Much like other kinds of furniture, steel furniture is easy to clean and maintain.
In most instances, simply dusting your steel furniture is enough to rid them of dirt and dust. However, for a more thorough cleaning, you should also wipe them down every once in a while as you would your sliding doors and tilt windows. For this process, all you will need is a clean cloth and some water. When wiping though, be sure that you wipe along or in the direction of the grain or the finish’ pattern. After this, be sure to wipe the furniture thoroughly with a dry cloth to remove any excess water or moisture, as these will somehow damage the metal and affect its durability in the long run by causing rust and corrosion.
For the more stubborn stains like fingerprints for instance, you may want to use warm water and some mild detergent. There is an emphasis on using against strong cleaning agents because these can damage the steel furniture’s lacquer finish, either by causing it to fade or completely erasing it. After wiping it with a cleaning solution, wipe it down with a clean, damp cloth to remove any detergent residue and then wipe it again with a clean, dry cloth.
When it comes to maintenance, especially with regards to outdoor furniture, you may want to give your steel furniture some extra protection against the outside elements. These elements which includes sunlight, rains, and even strong winds, can and will cause some damage to your steel furniture including causing it to look faded and old. Excessive exposure to these elements may even compromise the durability of your steel furniture in the long run. High quality steel furniture are finished with high grade lacquer or polish, which also give them a durable coating for added protection. However, it is still imperative that you do your part to ensure your steel furniture’s longevity. There are actually several things you can do to protect your steel furniture.
For one, consider moving them to a shaded spot during hot, harsh summer months, as the ultra violet rays will damage the steel furniture’s lacquer finish or polish. Alternatively, during cold winter months, you can try moving your steel furniture inside the house or storing them in the garage or shed, or at least put some covering on them to minimise their exposure to moisture. Also, you should avoid putting your steel furniture near a swimming pool especially those with high chlorine content, as this chemical will eat through the finish and thus corrode the metal underneath it.
